Bringing Concepts to Life
Protolab Blog
This portfolio is a growing collection of prototypes, creative projects, sketches, and hands-on experiments that reflect both my engineering background and artistic interests. It brings together electro-mechanical builds, rapid prototyping, watercolor studies, traditional Chinese painting, and sketchbook concepts that capture different parts of my learning and creative process.
More than just finished results, this space is also about curiosity, experimentation, and developing skills through making things by hand. Many ideas begin as quick sketches, small observations, or random thoughts before gradually evolving into drawings, prototypes, and physical objects over time.
About Me
Hi, I’m Cecelia. Welcome to my proto lab site :-)
By day, I work as a mechanical engineer. Outside of work, I enjoy running, watercolor painting, traditional Chinese painting, and spending time building small experimental hardware projects.
This site is my personal space to explore mechanics, sensors, electronics, rapid prototyping, and hands-on design through curiosity-driven projects and ideas that slowly evolve from sketches into working prototypes.

The Inspiration Behind the Lab
A lot of the ideas in this lab come from small moments in everyday life, such as running outdoors, late-night thoughts, sketches in my notebook, tiny frustrations, interesting textures, quiet spaces, watercolor and traditional Chinese painting, or random “what if…” questions that refuse to leave my head.
I’ve always liked the idea that technology doesn’t need to be loud or distracting to feel meaningful. Sometimes the best products are the ones that quietly fit into daily routines and make life feel a little smoother, calmer, or more enjoyable without demanding attention.
This space is where I experiment with those ideas through mechanics, sensors, electronics, drawing, and rapid prototyping. Some projects are practical, some are weird, and some exist simply because I wanted to see if an idea could become real.
Experimental Projects & Prototyping
This lab is where I explore hands-on product development through small experimental projects and prototypes. I use it as a space to practice and improve skills in mechanical design, CAD, 3D printing, soldering, electronics, sensors, and simple programming.
The projects range from interactive everyday objects to small mechanical experiments, often combining hardware, sensing, and rapid prototyping into one build. Some ideas work, some fail, and some continue evolving over time as I learn new tools, materials, and ways to build things.
